Presentation of the activity
Kayaking along the Dubai Creek, starting from the Jewel of the Creek and heading towards Festival City is a great way to explore this historic waterway.
Here’s what you might expect during the journey:
1. Starting Point – Jewel of the Creek
The Jewel of the Creek is located on the western bank of the Dubai Creek, a modern development with luxury residences, office spaces, and stunning views of the water. From here, you'll be paddling along the water with views of the creek and surrounding areas. The creek is calm and relatively wide, with a blend of modern and traditional scenery as you move along.
2. The Creek's Calm Waters
The Dubai Creek is generally quite calm, especially around this stretch. You’ll experience gentle waters as you glide along, though the current can vary depending on the tides. Early mornings or late afternoons are ideal for kayaking to avoid heavy boat traffic. During the day, small boats and abras (traditional wooden boats) pass by, so you'll need to stay aware of your surroundings, but the waterway isn't heavily trafficked in comparison to other major routes.
3. Iconic Views of the Dubai Skyline
As you paddle along the creek, you'll have a mix of old and new Dubai visible on either side. To your left, you’ll pass the Jewel of the Creek's beautiful buildings, and to your right, you’ll notice a blend of both historic creek-side structures and more modern developments as you approach areas like Deira. You can also see various commercial boats cruising by, which gives the creek a traditional feel.
4. Passing by the Old and New Dubai
As you head further along the creek, you'll paddle past some of the most iconic areas of old Dubai, with a mix of commercial and residential buildings lining the water. The area is rich in culture, with many historic buildings and traditional markets (souks) nearby.
On the opposite side, you'll start to see newer developments, including the skyline of Dubai's business district and the increasingly modern waterfronts, like Dubai Festival City in the distance.
