What is Paddle Boarding?
Paddle boarding in Dubai is fun, refreshing and energizing. Surprisingly enough paddle boarding goes way back to ancient Hawaiian roots and is now an exciting sport practised around the world. It involves the use of what looks like a surfboard with the addition of paddles used by the rider to propel them and the board towards a finishing line or across a specific course of flat or white waters. Paddle boards can be used lying down, kneeling or standing. The sport of Stand Up Paddle Boarding or SUP is incredibly popular with Paddle Boarding Dubai holidays becoming ever more in demand.
Essential Equipment Needed for Paddle Boarding
Firstly, there is the paddle board itself which comes in many sizes and quality depending on the experience of the rider and the types of water to be traversed. Stand Up Paddle Boards are generally more bouyant than surf boards and tend to be wider and longer. These design differences set paddle boards apart from surf boards and make them easier to balance on.
Paddle boards are generally divided into the following types:
– Flatwater SUP Boards
– Whitewater SUP Boards
– Race SUP Boards
– Surf SUP Boards
– Windsurf SUP Boards
– Allround SUP Boards
Then there are the paddles which also vary in length, weight and quality. Paddle Board paddles consist of a handle, shaft and blade and the overall length varies between 6-8 inches longer than the paddlers height for Surf SUP Paddles right up to 10-12 inches longer than the paddler for use with racing SUP boards. The shape of the blade also depends on the purpose for which they will be used and are classified into blades for racing, power or endurance.
What Does Paddle Board Training Involve?
Paddle board training should combine high intensity paddling routines which gradually increases in duration followed by a low intensity work out. In other words intensity and volume of work outs should be increased and decreased periodically to achieve optimal results. As with any gym workout, never do the exact same intensity and duration of workout every session.
The Health Benefits of Paddle Boarding
Paddle boarding has incredible health benefits as the balancing involved works on your core while the paddling builds h2 and toned arms. It is a great workout for your abs too with so many people praising Paddle Boarding for stimulating six pack development. Because paddle boards are more stable than surf boards one can balance on them and gradually ease into gentle strokes of exercise.
Best Place to Try Paddle Boarding
One of the hottest destinations to really get immersed in the exciting sport of Paddle Boarding is Palm Jumeira in Dubai. You can find many activity holidays which include Kayaking, windsurfing, sailboats and Paddle Boarding sports in Dubai with other family oriented sports and entertainment on offer.
